The Plague of Fear (Dr Paul Eneche)

Objectives
1.) Understanding the nature of fear

2.) Understanding the sources of fear

3.) Understanding the effects of fear

4.) Understanding the secrets of victory over fear

Fear is associated with the workings of satan.

What is fear?
i.) An unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger pain or harm.

ii.) Fear is a feeling of anxiety concerning the outcome of something or the safety of oneself or someone else.

iii.) Fear is the likelihood of something unwelcome happening.

iv.) Fear is a negative emotion generated from negative expectations and anticipations

v.) Fear is faith in the reverse, in the negative, in the disastrous and calamitous. It is somebody believing something that should not be believed.

vi.) Fear is expecting the wickedness of the devil to prevail over the goodness of God.

vii.) Fear is placing the evidence of the senses above the evidence of the word.

Kinds of fear
1.) The fear of death (Hebrews 2:14-16)

2.) Fear of the future - uncertainty about what the future holds

3.) Fear of the unknown - of sudden calamity or disaster

4.) Fear of failure - Not doing well in life or ending as expected.

5.) Fear of negative predictions or bad will of people for you coming to pass.

6.) Fear of repeating negative family history or cycles e.g. sickness, failure etc

7.) Fear of the past ruining the future.

8.) Fear of ending in shame (Isaiah 54:4)

9.) Fear of the night or darkness or being alone.

Sources of fear
1. Experiences of the past (both yours and those of others) that fill your imaginations.

2. The hearing of the ear (Deuteronomy 20:21)

3. The sight of the eye (Deuteronomy 20:1, 28:67, Luke 21:11)

4. The thoughts of the heart (Job 4:12-13)

5. The threats of the enemy (Nehemiah 6:19)

6. The fearful emotions of other people (Isaiah 8:12-13). It is not possible to be a faith-filled person when you keep company with fearful people.

7. A rumour in the land (Jeremiah 51:46)

8. The spirit of fear

Effects of fear
1. Fear is a magnet - It connects you with satan, his activities, and the object of your fear (Proverbs 10:24).

Your fear pulls in your direction what you fear and your desire pulls what you desire in your direction. It is a matter of choice.

2. Fear is a pathway to defeat in life's battles (Deuteronomy 20:1-2,8)
With fear on ground, victory is impossible. Fear paralyzes mentally and leads to failure.

3. Fear invites traps and snares into one's life (Proverbs 29:25, Jeremiah 48:43-44)

4. Fear brings bondage and torment (Hebrews 2:15, 1 John 4:18)

5. Fear prevents the possession of life's inheritance (Joshua 1:2-7, Deuteronomy 1:20-21)

6. Fear is the foundation for disaster and destruction (Job 3:25-26, Proverbs 1:24-27)

7. Fear is highly contagious and infectious

8. Fear puts life on the run (Judges 9:21, 1 Samuel 22:26, Isaiah 21:10)

9. Fear attracts anxiety, disease and death (Job 4:14), it attracts hypertension, neurosis, ulcer symptoms, premature death etc.

10. Fear can usher life into eternal damnation (Revelation 21:8)

Secrets of victory over fear
(1.) The presence of God (Psalms 23:3-4, 27:1-5, Psalms 46:1-3, Isaiah 41:10-14, Isaiah 43:1-5, Psalms 118:6, Zephaniah 3:16-17). Live in the consciousness that you are not alone.

(2.) The word and voice of God (Genesis 15:1-4, Proverbs 1:33, Acts 27:21-25, Luke 12:4-7, Numbers 14:9)

(3.) Faith and confidence in God (Psalms 56:4, Proverbs 3:25-26, Mark 4:37)

(4.) The ministry of the priest (Pastors) and your shepherd (Deuteronomy 20:1-4, Jeremiah 23:4)

(5.) The fear of the Lord (Proverbs 14:26-27,16:6,8:13,28:1, Isaiah 8:12-13, 54:14)

(6.) Avoiding fear imparting intakes, contacts, or action (Proverbs 4:23, 2 Corinthians 10:5).

(7.) Dealing with the spirit of fear. Speak out against the spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7, Romans 8:15, Luke 10:19). Deal with fear with your declarations.

(8.) Making the choice against fear (Exodus 14:13, Genesis 15:1). Make the choice for boldness. Say, "I will not allow fear to take over my life. I will not allow fear to take me to hell or ruin my destiny. I will not live like satan is more powerful than God."
